Ceramic Coatings

“what are ceramic coatings?”

A ceramic coating is a thin layer of optically clear ceramic film applied by hand to your car’s paintwork. It chemically bonds to the paintwork, filling in all the pores, peaks and valleys in the paint. This provides a completely smooth, even layer of protection resulting in a ‘sacrificial’ layer and as such does not wash away, degrade or need repeated application every few months unlike the more traditional carnauba waxes.

“What does a ceramic coating do?”

By adding additional protection to your car’s paintwork it helps in keeping it looking like new or ‘just detailed’. This is achieved by the coating becoming very hard once cured – 9h on the pencil lead scale.

Ease of cleaning

Ceramic coatings are hydrophobic, which means they are very good at repelling water (think of the ‘Lotus leaf effect’). Water will bead on the surface and slide off more easily. Mud, dirt and grime will also have a more difficult time sticking to your car’s paint, thus making your car stay cleaner for longer and make it easier to wash.

Resistance to chemical staining/etching – the high density ceramic layer is resistant to chemicals ranging from pH2-pH12. This characteristic also makes bonded contaminants such as tar, tree sap and water spots easier to remove.
